General:
The popular diving spot of Kallithea caves is in Kallithea, 4 nautical miles from the port of Rhodes and alternatively 1.7 nautical miles from the fishing refuge jetty of Kallithea. This diving route is unique due to the presence of three relatively shallow caves, with great visibility in considerable shallow waters. The diving commences at 3 meters depth and the entrance on the first cave is at 7 meters with a very short passage, exiting on the same depth from the northen side of the cave. After two minutes swimming with a northern direction, we enter the second cave at 6 meters which nicely leads to the surface internally with very beautiful formations of limestone rhodoalgae inside. Going out in reverse we cover 10 minutes swimming in the midst of Posidonia and a multitude of pelagic fish before ending up in the third cave where the entrance is at 2.5 meters, and also ends at a triangular exit at its top.
Details:
Once we dive, we encounter a cluster of 2-4 large rocks and the entrance of the first cave at 7 meters where we penetrate and stand at the bottom of it, observing the impressive interior due to the incoming lateral light from side openings.
We exit from the northern side at 7 meters depth and head north, passing through scattered smaller rocks entering the second cave at a depth of 6 meters. In the cave we find limestone algae and rare cavefish.
We emerge coming to the surface, always inside the cave, before diving and exiting the same entrance. Then we follow a course southeast, passing through sandy bottom and Posidonia meadows in the depth contour of 8 meters. There, we find the third cave with an entrance at 2.5 meters. As soon as we enter, we meet the rays of the sun penetrate through the opening of the roof where we exit again in reverse.
We return to the boat swimming at 5 meter contour, lasting 10 minutes where we meet many pelagic fish. This dive is suitable for snorkelers and open water divers.
